Andrew Tucker with Tucker Floral

Andrew Tucker is the first florist I met when I started coordinating for Eberley Brooks.  I immediately fell in love with his work.  I wanted EVERY bride to use him, because I knew they would love their florals EVERY time.

Tucker Floral is an Eberley Brooks preferred vendor, and we are ecstatic about it!  I hope you enjoy learning about Tucker as much as I have enjoyed getting to work with him.

Tell me about yourself.

I truly believe I’m the funniest person I know. Although many times other people don’t get my jokes, I always do. I love to work and have projects. I love to keep busy.

How did you get started?

I had a couple of friends that worked at a beautiful flower shop, and I was always amazed about everything they created.  I would go and see my buddies for lunch every couple of weeks, and one day I was told to clock in and start working. I’ve been hooked ever since.

Why did you stick with this career path?

In the beginning, it was a creative outlet. I love to making things botanically. It’s always fun to see what you can create with something organic like plants and flowers. I then began to see the emotions that come with the reasons to send flowers: the joy of a new baby, the celebration of a birthday, the comfort flowers have for a grieving family. It’s a blessing to be a part of that and to help people express those feelings. Those are my daily blessings. The bigger events, such as parties and weddings, are exponentially greater.  There is so much joy and love that is expressed in a wedding. I want every bride to feel like a princess on the most important day of their life. Going over ideas, sample boards, Pinterest, color swatches anything that can help me see and understand their vision is so important. Later when ideas are settled, I work with my broker on sourcing and finding botanicals that bring their ideas to life. Next I create and set up the party. It all comes together when the doors open, the crowd turns and the bride takes her first step down the aisle with everyone focused on her. That’s when I know I’ve done my job. Candles lit, Cannon in D major playing, and everyone focusing on the union between two people.  In truth, I know a wedding is still a wedding with or without me, but I get to be a part of creating the setting, making sure a bride feels like the only person in the world for her husband, and the entire ceremony and party is solely for them. That exactly what they want.  Beyond the work, sweat, cut fingers, late nights, gallons of coffee, and cheap to-go food, I can say I did everything in my power to make things as seamless, easy, and beautiful for them.

What is your favorite thing about your job?

See answer above, but hearing families talk about the party and remembering all the details. Seeing pictures on social media of the lives that were joined from weddings I helped create. That’s the real joy.

What sets you apart from others in your industry?

I wake up excited to go to work. I love what I do. I get excited about new flowers and varieties. I love teaching new employees about what I do and help them to grow. Rarely do I leave a wedding setup before everything is in place. I even wait for the wedding cake set up. If there are flowers on, near, or around something, I want my hands on it to make sure it is all that it can be. I know I cannot do every party or wedding that comes across my desk, but I am going make sure the ones I create will be something I can be proud of.

What is something interesting about yourself that most people do not know?

I am open and transparent to a fault, so I’m not sure.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I love playing in my yard and in my garden. There is something about working with your hands in the dirt that clears your mind.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

NYC- trust me, there are few places on the island that I have not explored. I love the fact that within millions of people bustling around, I’m still me. In all of the busyness, I can sit on Gapstow Bridge in Central Park, and I can talk to my God and He knows exactly where I am, and what I need. I have done that on every single trip to the city. I sit and meditate in the same spot, and I know that I am exactly where I am supposed to be. I am loved. I am ok. If I can do that within a city of 8.6 million people, that is a beautiful thing. Plus the theater, art, museums, food, history, and culture are not bad to experience either!
